Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to 1PA and 1TD. In Year 1 there are lots of people who help you with your learning – Mrs Ahmed, Mr O’Donoghue, Mrs Cundale, Mrs Mehta, Mrs Smith. There are other people who will be working with you too – Mrs Simmonds.

Our curriculum topic in Autumn 1 is "Our local area” This topic will encourage the children to explore the local environment and look at journeys we make. During this topic the children will be looking at a range of core texts around this theme. We kindly request parents do not read this book with the children at home as we build up across the term and we want the children to get as much from the class discussions as possible. Our Science topic is "Ourselves".

Our curriculum topic in Autumn 2 is "Traditional tales” This topic will encourage the children to explore the different stories and alternative versions of the stories. During this topic the children will be creating story boxes and looking at sculpture to make characters from the story.

Phonics plays an important part in the Year 1 curriculum.  The children will continue to have daily phonics sessions to support their reading and writing.

Please find our curriculum newsletter attached.
