art
“The important thing is to create…every child is an artist.”
Pablo Picasso
Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. Snaresbrook Primary School’s high-quality Art and Design education engages, inspires and challenges our pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
As pupils progress in our school, they are able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. Our Art curriculum will develop children’s critical abilities and understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through studying a diverse range of male and female artists.
how is art implemented?
We are very fortunate to be able to give the children access to a rich and vibrant Art curriculum in which they explore the full range of art mediums - including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, photography.
We also supplement our curriculum with additional enrichment projects which run throughout the year. These projects allow us to develop the children's love of art and deepen their understanding of art skills.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENRICHED ART LEARNING
We are always looking for opportunities to promote art in the school by organising trips, visitors and workshops. Please see below for the enriching experiences that we have taken part in.
artsmark gold
We are delighted to announce that our commitment to the arts have been recognised by the Arts Council and we've been awarded Gold Artsmark!
For the last 2 years, we've been working on 3 priorities: arts training for our staff; developing long-lasting arts partnerships and developing independence in our pupils.
Artsmark judges said:
"You clearly have a long-term commitment to arts and culture which is beginning to have measurable effects on staff, pupils, and parental engagement. Pupils can access a consistent range of arts and cultural provision through work with local arts and cultural organisations, both in school and on visits outside the classroom, which leads to showcasing in school and the local community."
We are so proud of our pupils and are constantly amazed by their creative abilities. I would also like to say a huge thanks to our committed staff who have worked so hard developing the arts in our school.
National Gallery Secret Mission
Six lucky children from 6RM have been involved in a top secret mission today to the @nationalgallery. We can’t tell you much, but we can tell you how we were involved in creating the idea of the Take One Picture exhibition which will open in July 2023.
Today we had an incredible insight into the National Gallery- what jobs there are at the National Art Gallery, how it works and how to organise an exhibition.
We’ve had a brilliant day and we’ll tell you more soon!
Nursery's Stormy Shipwreck
As part of the Take One Picture project, Nursery created a soundscape. The children really enjoyed using their voices to create their own musical piece.
Shadow Puppet Films
As part of the Take One Picture project, 3MA created their own shadow puppet films. The children learnt the process of how to make shadow puppets. They had to create stencils which they could draw around to create their shadow puppet.
Whole School Photography Workshop
A professional photographer came into school and showed us how to use professional photography equipment including lighting and props. Pupils had to set up their own photography studio and took photos of their peers.
Art Maths Day
Maths has directly influenced art with conceptual tools such as perspective and symmetry. Many artists have taken advantage of mathematical findings such as the golden ratio to make their art realistic and beautiful. At Snaresbrook Primary School we had a whole day exploring the relationship between art and maths.
Steve McQueen Year 3
It was an honour to participate in this national art project in collaboration with Tate Britain. A photographer from Steve McQueen's team came into school and photographed our Year 3 cohort, and our photo was exhibited in Tate Britain.
The Royal Academy Young Artist
In its third year, the Young Artists' Summer Show at the Royal Academy brings together work by Primary and Secondary schools across the UK.
We ran a school-wide competition and submitted all entrants.
Art Lockdown Projects
During Lockdown in 2020/21, we created many art challenges. The arts gave us a way to express our thoughts and were very cathartic for adults and pupils alike. Whilst we were learning remotely, teachers ensured that children had a wealth of art activities to do at home. Please see the examples below.
