RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
At Snaresbrook Primary School, it is our intent that we give pupils the tools to combat prejudice, preparing them for their lives in the our modern world. Our Religious Education curriculum reflects this intent. We follow the recently updated Redbridge Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) 2021. The aim of the Redbridge SACRE has been to produce a syllabus that will inspire and equip the children and young people in Redbridge schools, and through the teaching of the syllabus our aim is that the children develop respect for, and understanding of, the different communities in this school and the wider community that they are part of. Our RE teaching is designed to prepare children for living in and sharing in an inclusive community by teaching them how to be sensitive to the issues of the day: race, religion, gender, equality and culture.
How is RE implemented?
In the Early Years and Foundation Stage, Religious Education is taught throughout the year as part of one of the four specific areas of learning: 'Understanding of the World'.
In Key Stages 1 and 2, RE is taught through weekly, discrete lessons which encompass religious enquiry questions, as well as teaching the beliefs of world religions.
Through daily collective worship and celebrations of festivals of faith, children learn about differences and similarities between religions. Themes for daily collective worship include respect, responsibility, resilience, honesty and compassion.
