Safeguarding

Keeping Children Safe is Everyone’s Responsibility

Our school community has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are our pupils. This means that we have Safeguarding and Child Protection policies and procedures in place. All staff, including our volunteers and supply staff, must ensure that they are aware of our procedures.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will always ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with their parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that this is not in the child’s best interest or a child is at significant risk or in immediate danger.

Our designated Safeguarding Officers are;

  • Mrs Nicola Hedges (Headteacher)
  • Mrs Caroline Heard (Assistant Headteacher)
  • Miss Johanna Talbott (SENCo, Year 3 & 4 Senior Leader)
  • Mrs Colleen Carpenter (Year 1 & 2 Senior Leader)
  • Mrs Sarah Chessis (EYFS Senior Leader)
  • Mrs Rose McDermott (Year 5 & 6 Senior Leader)

If you have a concern about the Headteacher, please contact Mrs Kerensa Heffron (Chair of Governors) via the school office.

If you have concerns about any child, you can contact Children’s Services Social Care direct on 020 8708 3781

Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)

The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) works within Children’s Services and should be alerted to all cases in which it is alleged that a person who works with children has:

  • behaved in a way that has harmed, or may have harmed, a child
  • possibly committed a criminal offence against children, or related to a child
  • behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates s/he is unsuitable to work with children.

The LADO role applies to paid, unpaid, volunteer, casual, agency and self-employed workers.  They capture concerns, allegations or offences emanating from outside of work. The LADO is involved from the initial phase of the allegation through to the conclusion of the case.

They will provide advice, guidance and help to determine whether the allegation sits within the scope of the procedures.

The LADO helps co-ordinate information-sharing with the right people and will also monitor and track any investigation, with the aim to resolve it as quickly as possible.
