Mathematics
The intent of our Mathematics curriculum is that it is accessible to all and will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. We deliver lessons that are creative and engaging. We want children to make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. We want them to know that Maths is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. As our pupils progress through Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, we aim for them to have the ability to reason mathematically, and to have a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
how is mATHS implemented?
Maths is taught every day, incorporating pupils' reasoning, fluency and problem-solving skills.
We use the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach, which includes using apparatus and equipment on a daily basis. The use of physical and visual aids/equipment, e.g. dienes, cubes and counters, help to build a child's understanding of topics.
SNARESBROOK MATHS CURRICULUM
At Snaresbrook Primary School, children have a daily Maths lesson in which we follow and incorporate the White Rose Maths scheme. The scheme of work develops pupils' reasoning, fluency and problem-solving skills. In addition to this scheme, in Early Years and Key Stage 1, we use the 'Mastering Number programme' to strengthen understanding of number and fluency with number facts.
We also use a number of electronic programmes, such as MyMaths, Times Tables Rockstars and Numbots, which support the children's learning.
Maths Yearly Overviews
Planning for Mathematics is a process in which all teachers are involved to ensure that the school gives full coverage of The National Curriculum programmes of study for Mathematics and The Development Matters statements linked to Maths: Number, and Maths: Shape, Space and Measures in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
